The Elephant and The Rope

This picture reminded me of the story of the elephant 🐘 and the rope.

If you don’t know it, Google it, but it’s the same principle. A large, strong animal is tied to a tree/chair/whatever because it has been conditioned to believe that it can’t break free.

In the same way we are conditioned to believe that we are less than, or that we can’t break free of our sin, of our job situation, our toxic relationships, and whatever else is holding us back.

So my question is this: WHO is doing the conditioning? We can talk about the enemy aka the accuser that makes us doubt and question ourselves, but in terms of outside influences, is it a parent? A spouse? A friend? A coworker? Someone tied that horse to the chair or that elephant to that tree. Who is tying you?

It’s easy to tell each other to break out but it can be difficult, especially when we don’t know the source of the lie. However, we do know the source of the truth and that’s Jesus.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

You are a child of God and He says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139). You possess everything you need to break out of these cycles* but you have to decide who it is that you’re going to believe.
